Great episode Rachel is an OG I remember her sideline reporting 20+ years ago and I'm happy for her joining Showtime but unfortunately after listening to this podcast it's clear she's not returning to ESPN to save us from Malika 😔

    • 09lowkey
      09lowkey Tháng trước +5

Malika is a pretty face, no complaints there. She knows what the 'idea of being a basketball player' is so she can relate, no complaints there. But she doesn't know basketball, and because of that, she tries to make everything about the 'idea of being a basketball player' instead of the game of basketball. Which the 'basketball fans' can't get with. If you want to hear about Steph Curry & Lebron James, she's great for that. But if you want to hear about those players in relation to their on-court performance, that's out of her league because she doesn't know the game on that level, Rachel could operate on that level, that's what Malika is missing.

@BlabSurreal another ignorant person. 25 years to almost accomplish your dream just to get it taken away because of the race situation in America. @Boss Lady83 you sounds foolish. I don’t like the new girl because she’s black lol. We’ll get used to it. Maria Taylor is a star and has been covering nfl and the Olympics for NBC. She’s a shooting star that is onto bigger and better things. She clearly has the it quality which is why these companies were competing for her services. And Malika andrews is doing so well she was the first women to host an NBA draft so yea they aren’t going anywhere. Maybe you shouldn’t watch basketball if you have that much issues with melanin

@Gwan Daman I don’t think you comprehend the moral of the story .. she mentioned maria because ESPN wanted to make it about race as to why she couldn’t host the NBa finals. Espn wanted to make it seem that they care so they removed Rachel for maria when the whole Black Lives Matter was happening.. that was the point she was making to ESPN.

Talking about missing Rachel and that show is an understatement and so glad to have her back. That show was so much fun and Rachel kept it hopping. Knowledgeable, intelligent, funny, and pretty, she kept it upbeat with all the guests that I absolutely loved. I always thought her comments were out of self-preservation, not discrimination. Anyone would want to keep the job they worked for in that situation. Race was a factor, but I don't think her motive had anything to do with it. ESPN needed a fall guy/gal, ended up being Rachel. Unfortunately, now we have Malika to talk about basketball, someone who knows nothing about basketball.

I absolutely loved this segment! Rachel has always been the ultimate professional in her career and approach to things that it was hard to see her being tarnished through the media for speaking her truth AND "the truth". Like Matt & Stak said, "those who know you will never be wavered in their perception of you given the history" & it shows in their respect and admiration for Rachel. You can tell she's be instrumental in their lives, and now they're in position to give back shows how valuable she really is to the sports community.
Rachel, you are a pillar in this business, and to see how much you've grown despite the negative connotations surrounding a vital moment in your career says you are destined to soar. Lord knows you made The Jump, and we miss you at The Jump; but, your reputation and dignity outweighs any dollar amount. Be blessed and welcome to the Showtime family! Shout-out to Matt & Stak.

Great interview. Job well done to all of the crew. Glad to see Rachel finally back as she deserves it. She is up there as one of the best female reporters today covering the NBA. 25 yrs in the game, she's gone through it toughly and deserves the roses. Matt and Jack are a great combo and do a good job. Love their content. However, I did unsubscribe the channel and thought the interview was gr8. Why did I unsubscribe?.............. This is the only reason. At 25.00 (end of clip/interview) Matt says "Welcome to Death Row" then switches his words. I personally don't want nothing to do with 'Death Row, wether it be realistic or associated with a record label'. So, if I continued to subscribe then I'm subscribing to 'Death Row'! I don't want that! I'm not no gangster but am a fan of the NBA. Anyway I'm just 1 person who thinks that. So 1 subscriber lost is no big deal. It's a great show and you guys do an awesome job. 1 lost but many will be gained.

    Thank you!!
I’ve been listening to Matt/Stephen since before it became “all the smoke”
What y’all are discussing goes farther than what you will ever know.
My father is Hispanic and my mother is white red headed and freckled.
I went from the hood to the middle class as a youth. What I like about your TV SHOW!! Is that it helps me understand things that I would’ve never said out loud. Especially that I do have white skin, but when my father(Hispanic) hit his licks. I was the but if jokes due to my last name at a predominantly white school.
    Thanks for what y’all do!!

Sports are the best reality show out there. They’ve had this interview probably done for who knows how long and it just so happens to come out within a week after people have started criticizing her replacement in Malika Andrews. It feels like everything is set up and staged.
But on another note, they should bring her back. The jump was so much better than the current nba show on air. The environment between Rachel and everyone else who would come on was so much friendlier, funnier and better than it is now.

This makes me so happy. I've been defending Rachel in comment sections all over social media lol. So glad she is finally explaining it herself. People were calling her racist based off nothing, essentially. I've watched her work for years to get where she got and The Jump was a GREAT show. ESPN has chased a lot of great talent away. They are the problem.

Matt looked like he needed to smoke a sativa; He was more chill than usual. Love the love Stephen Jackson has for Rachel. Really showing his gratitude. Lastly, Matt said he really cares most about how the people who know him feels about him. It’s really simple, but that line hit me. Wisdom. Thanks for a great show guys!

@Gwan Daman Yeah in the audio she said ESPN was trying to give Maria the job because she was black. Your lack of understanding isnt seeing that THE JOB WAS IN RACHELS CONTRACT ALREADY! So they were trying to get her to give the job she already had to Maria just because she was black and wanted to look good given the events that were going on. Yall really just ignorant out here and its sad smh. Had nothing to do with Maria earning the job. You cant earn a job somebody already had a contract for. Try listening instead of just hearing what you want

    • Curtis Robinson
      Curtis Robinson 2 tháng trước

@Corey Johnson Unfortunately that's not true. It was black people calling her racist when the recording dropped, not whites. And it was two black women in Malika and Maria who talked down on her after it came out. And yes white people fired her but not to save face, it was under pressure from black public after the recording came out because ESPN knew about the recording already and still promoted her. It wasn't until the public had something to say when it leaked that they fired her. All over social media they called her racist

    • Corey Johnson
      Corey Johnson 2 tháng trước

@Curtis Robinson that situation had nothing to do with black people. it was a white man who recorded her, and ESPN ran by white people who fired her. Black people knew her, and understood how genuine she was and how much she related to the players through the love of the game and that's why plenty of black players stood up for her, and also why many of the comments from black people are glad she's back and supports her. Her own kind did her in thinking it would somehow benefit them with black culture. But what they failed to understand and realize was we knew Rachel, knew what she stood for, knew how much she really loved the game and cared about the success of the players, and her overall personality. so to us it was never about a black lady replacing her. we all knew she was the right person simply because of her chemistry with the players and fans, her many years of covering the sport, her being a overall great person. black people tend to judge on a person's overall behavior over their words. that comes from growing up in a racist country. we understand that your history has to match what you're being accused of. 25 years of being a great professional around mostly black players we understand if she was racist it would have been came out through her actions. so we knew her words were taken out of context. and obviously I don't speak for all black people but I'm pretty sure 90 percent of us who follows the NBA would agree with everything I said.
