When I first watched it I just thought that it was Wanderer who changed the way he looks at the world and his life, but now it almost seems like an actual question...

You could write a whole essay describing why that is exactly what he is, with examples being his harbinger symbol, his clear insecurity of being unable to fulfill the one role he was made for and discarded, his narrow worldview, im sure you know what I’m talking about if you have read so much lore. it’s a fine premise and trauma generally does make an interesting character with the right responses and details but the way he somehow manages to turn everything he’s experienced into a “betrayal” and add it to his strange worldview is lost on me and hardly good character development (but it COULD be once we ACTUALLY GET HIS QUESTS, he has some potential like I said as it would be rather strange if he did not considering how much lore he’s gotten even before release). Again, anyone who sees him as interesting is likely considering the depth of character development to just be how much tragedy they have experienced, when in reality it should be way more complex in a way that Scaramouche simply does not have (maybe atm, maybe ever, his story is simply mediocre for now, it’s even arguable whether it’s good at all, a best written claim right now just has to be responded to with 🧢 ). He is quite similar to signora in that regard, if you think her story is deep you are also mistaking tragedy for depth like that old “I’m 14” meme. I honestly was so blown away by this teaser, it had me speechless. Then as the tragedy of Scara’s story really set in for me, tears came to my eyes. after living for centuries in pain pining after the electro gnosis, thinking that it was the only thing that could make him whole, and realizing that he didn't feel whole even with the gnosis, my man scaramouche/wanderer earned an anemo vision of his very own as his new "heart born from ashes" sheesh Mihoyo is way too poetic...
The character seems to be bad (I mean that his heart has pure evil xD) but in reality what made him like that is all the lack of attention and the fact that he has been betrayed so many times by people he loved. After understanding his story, one feels sorry for him. What a good story, I'm sure I'll spend some wishes at him😁👍

Incredible VA’s aside, I just found out how much about Scara is based on Bohemian Rhapsody. “Anyway the wind blows” anemo vision “Beelzebub put a devil put aside for me” and “Thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightening!” Raiden The obvious scaramouche lines And the latest “Sometimes I wish I’d never been born at all!” From this trailer. I’m convinced scaramouche was completely inspired by bohemian rhapsody.

I really like how the lore is progressing further into something more emotionally touching like Honkai's lore. I know that Genshin had a more child-friendly tone to it's story at first but dang this is a lot better. Both the lore writers and scara's VA deserve a reward.

You know that Honkai didn't start "dark" from the get-go, right :? I've been playin' HI3 since 2018 and, at that time, I definitely wasn't expectin' it to become as emotional driven and complex as it is now Back then the "sadest" stories were just Theresa's origins and Wendy's sacrifice, the rest was just "school girls beatin' monsters while falling in love" Is just a matter of plot development. For a game that's gonna take 5+ years to fully tell it's story, they are sure to feed us what their actual intentions are with it slowly and meticulously I also never though that Genshin's story was childish, since from the get-go we already had the Archon and Fatui name conventions brought from dark cultural references, a kid that lost both parents and had to be raised by wolfes, a psychopath tryin' to sacrifice an entire city state to acomplish his objetives and much more (like Albedo and Xiao's backstory) ...there's no gain to acquire by comparin' both games tbh, let Hoyoverse follow different narrative paths on their separate games

scaramouche was announced as a playable character on the day bohemian rhapsody was released (oct 31), obvs could be a coincidence but with all the other references and the perfect timing of 3.2's release i think it was just a little thing they did on purpose. not that they planned for it, but the time of the announcement was gonna be near that date anyway, so they had fun with it
Dude this has to be the most PHENOMENAL character teaser, and just overall character genshin impact has made. The story is amazingly written, it all had such a well pace, and he’s one of my favorite characters of all time. His story really touched me with the struggles of dealing with grief, and the way he struggles to process emotion but only feels anger and has no hope for things. After so long I’m so happy he’s playable! The devs, artists, and animators did amazing on this and they deserve a gold star! Sending all other wanderer wanters luck, and I hope you succeed on your pulls!

I remember I watched a movie about a tin soldier when I was like 8 years old and it was very sad for me. And now seeing this story in genshin impact teaser really surprised me

I love this trailer so much but here is the real story of the steadfast soldier, which in my option is way cooler (ik they shortened it bc they didn’t have time but still). Also bc this is one of the stories I grew up with as a child :D Once upon a time a boy bought a set of 25 tin soldiers, but one of them was missing a leg bc there wasn’t enough metal to make him whole. He spots a paper ballerina with a spangle(sequin-like thing) on her sash, who balances on one leg. Since she stands on one leg like him, he falls in love with her. Later that night, some other toys including a goblin who like the ballerina as well threaten the tin soldier to take his eyes off her, but he ignores them. The next morning, it’s assumed that the goblin pushes the tin soldier off the windowsill into the street below. A couple boys find the soldier and put him into a paper boat, which sails right into the gutter. He washes off his paper boat into a storm dash, where a rat demands he pay a toll. The soldier sails on into a canal but is swallowed by a fish. This very fish gets caught and sold to the family who originally owned the tin soldier, and once again he finds himself on the same table he started with the paper ballerina. Then the boy inexplicably throws the tin soldier into the fireplace (somehow the work of the goblin). As he melts and burns however, the paper ballerina gets blown in the fire by the wind and they burn together. Within the ashes the next morning is the tin soldier who has melted into a heart right alongside the ballerina’s spangle that is burnt black as coal. ~The End~

Wow. That is the most amazing emotion va voice acting in genshin trailer for me. The change in tone , sigh, the tremble of voice are nothing short of masterpiece.
That "Nothing left but ashes" hit hard. No matter how much someone tries to romanticize their pain, there are no roses that bloom from your body and paint the ground with their beautiful colors. Blood is just blood.

@Curaga yeah yeah yeah ok, anyways the i agree with op the symbolism especially with other and even other stories outside of the game is something very exciting to piece together and i appreciate it. They made an effort to make his character interesting and relatable in some aspect and show how his emotional immaturity like ei's heavily affected him and others around him

after living for centuries in pain pining after the electro gnosis, thinking that it was the only thing that could make him whole, and realizing that he didn't feel whole even with the gnosis, my man scaramouche/wanderer earned an anemo vision of his very own as his new "heart born from ashes" sheesh Mihoyo is way too poetic...
The VA work is AMAZING. For just a trailer, everything is so well done, it was so cinematic. Once again, i applaud you Mihoyo
The character seems to be bad (I mean that his heart has pure evil xD) but in reality what made him like that is all the lack of attention and the fact that he has been betrayed so many times by people he loved. After understanding his story, one feels sorry for him.

I really like how the lore is progressing further into something more emotionally touching like Honkai's lore. I know that Genshin had a more child-friendly tone to it's story at first but dang this is a lot better. Both the lore writers and scara's VA deserve a reward.

I've been playin' HI3 since 2018 and, at that time, I definitely wasn't expectin' it to become as emotional driven and complex as it is now
Back then the "sadest" stories were just Theresa's origins and Wendy's sacrifice, the rest was just "school girls beatin' monsters while falling in love"
Is just a matter of plot development. For a game that's gonna take 5+ years to fully tell it's story, they are sure to feed us what their actual intentions are with it slowly and meticulously
I also never though that Genshin's story was childish, since from the get-go we already had the Archon and Fatui name conventions brought from dark cultural references, a kid that lost both parents and had to be raised by wolfes, a psychopath tryin' to sacrifice an entire city state to acomplish his objetives and much more (like Albedo and Xiao's backstory) ...there's no gain to acquire by comparin' both games tbh, let Hoyoverse follow different narrative paths on their separate games

scaramouche was announced as a playable character on the day bohemian rhapsody was released (oct 31), obvs could be a coincidence but with all the other references and the perfect timing of 3.2's release i think it was just a little thing they did on purpose. not that they planned for it, but the time of the announcement was gonna be near that date anyway, so they had fun with it

Dude this has to be the most PHENOMENAL character teaser, and just overall character genshin impact has made. The story is amazingly written, it all had such a well pace, and he’s one of my favorite characters of all time. His story really touched me with the struggles of dealing with grief, and the way he struggles to process emotion but only feels anger and has no hope for things. After so long I’m so happy he’s playable! The devs, artists, and animators did amazing on this and they deserve a gold star! Sending all other wanderer wanters luck, and I hope you succeed on your pulls!

I remember I watched a movie about a tin soldier when I was like 8 years old and it was very sad for me. And now seeing this story in genshin impact teaser really surprised me

The right answer is not "hearts can be Born from ashes" but "if there's pain, then it does mean there's a heart"
This made me remember a certain quote from Sora (KH3D) “you have to have a heart to cry”, so scaramouche indeed had a heart.
The story about the toy soldier is a pretty popular fairytale in my country and seeing the parallels with Scara’s story is just 😭

I love this trailer so much but here is the real story of the steadfast soldier, which in my option is way cooler (ik they shortened it bc they didn’t have time but still). Also bc this is one of the stories I grew up with as a child :D
Once upon a time a boy bought a set of 25 tin soldiers, but one of them was missing a leg bc there wasn’t enough metal to make him whole. He spots a paper ballerina with a spangle(sequin-like thing) on her sash, who balances on one leg. Since she stands on one leg like him, he falls in love with her. Later that night, some other toys including a goblin who like the ballerina as well threaten the tin soldier to take his eyes off her, but he ignores them.
The next morning, it’s assumed that the goblin pushes the tin soldier off the windowsill into the street below. A couple boys find the soldier and put him into a paper boat, which sails right into the gutter. He washes off his paper boat into a storm dash, where a rat demands he pay a toll.
The soldier sails on into a canal but is swallowed by a fish. This very fish gets caught and sold to the family who originally owned the tin soldier, and once again he finds himself on the same table he started with the paper ballerina.
Then the boy inexplicably throws the tin soldier into the fireplace (somehow the work of the goblin). As he melts and burns however, the paper ballerina gets blown in the fire by the wind and they burn together. Within the ashes the next morning is the tin soldier who has melted into a heart right alongside the ballerina’s spangle that is burnt black as coal.
