Was actually surprised they started off with animation off first and honestly was happy they gave it some respect.
Pinocchio earned that win change my mind
Three bots already. The comment section’s doomed.
@BeachioSand this is honestly sad
@GameBOYpuss in boots was still better in my opinion
When Jamie won during our watch party, most of us were pretty confused. But my father, as wise as he is, put it best. “Jamie Lee Curtis is an amazing actress, but her career consisting largely genre films and tv has meant she has never had a chance to be nominated. This award is not for Jamie’s performance in EEAAO, but for a lifetime of great acting. Sure, there were better performances from that category this year, but JLC *is* the Best Supporting Actress”
we understand, doesn't mean it isn't bs
that is a wise explanation, no kidding
but isn't that what life time achievement awards are for??
Sounds about right. James Horner wrote way better soundtracks than Titanic, but getting swept up in the flurry of nominations is a great way to get basically a Lifetime Achievement Award.
the same can be said for angela basset
Worth mentioning Frasier wasn't just assaulted by a superior in Hollywood, we was blacklisted from most of Hollywood for coming out about it, so seeing him still win best actor is just that much better
I think you mean blacklisted
@hara ecca that's correct, thank you
@Jim Carney Unofficial You're welcome!
I think my favorite moment of this show was the intro to the In Memoriam section. It was really obvious that John Travolta was upset because of Olivia Newton-John's death, and his speech made me tear up a bit. And the actual section was really good, a HUGE improvement over last year's. Oh, additionally, when the woman who won Best Costuming color-coordinated her speech cards to match her dress. That is some queen behavior.
That was what I noticed, that Travolta's speech seemed so honest and close to him. It was really quite moving
Definitely better than the time he introduced the wickedly talented Adele Dazeem.
And Kirstie Alley as well. He lost 2 of his closest friends and co-stars last year. Poor John.
I felt so bad for him at that moment! ☹️
Really happy that RRR won best song. There are so many Indian movies that have such great music, and the fact that they are finally getting recognized is amazing. The Academy rubbed me the wrong way when they didn't let India nominate Sardhar Udham, the movie about freedom fighters and Indian revolution (they said it glorified terrorism, which is just so stupid), but it looks like they are changing for the better!
The last indian submission nominated for best foreign film, was an anti colonial masala film about cricket. RRR is also an anti colonial masala film. I think they didn't nominate sardar udham was because it wasn't made to be entertaining like lagaan and rrr and provided a way more harsh and realistic portrayal of colonialism.
Hate that there were no Indian dancers
@Aryan Raj ya, it was too serious for Americans to rub the British this hard...
Seems ridiculous when basically every large war movie gets a best picture nod.
@CyberHumanism It was (this may be slightly wrong as it has been a while since I saw the film) about when a British man ordered the genocide of millions of Indians in a small village and an Indian man killing him as revenge for wiping out his village and family. The Indian Man is treated horribly in prison and his story is told to a biographer or something of that sort. It is an amazing movie, and shows the darker side of the revolution as opposed to ht lighthearted tone of RRR.
That reunification of Short Round and Indy was some of the most cinematic and beautiful things I've ever seen on this show, and it's so genuine too.
I’m glad Pinocchio won because it allowed Del Toro to put the Academy on blast for how they’ve treated animation.
luoS detiripseD Ok, does this method actually work? Does anyone actually click on this bot shit?
Guillermo Del Toro is the hero we Animators wanted and needed😢
Holy Frick these bot replies gave me depression
luoS detiripseD sorry who are you?
I was about to comment that! Even though puss in boots 2 was my favorite, I’m glad that Del Toros Pinocchio was picked to rub it in the face of those smug big wigs who think animation is only for kids.
I thought All Quiet on the Western Front's strongest asset was its score. It wasn't triumphant, or loud, or really all that noticeable, I recommend anyone to rewatch that movie, but when it kicks in let the music take you through your feelings. It't used infrequently but, I thought that the scarcity of the haunting tones were what made it special, always I got chills hearing it. (this was kind of like certain parts of puss and boots, no spoilers, if you know you know) Additionally the first scene was so interesting and made great use of that disturbing score. At the very least I think it deserved to have won based on how unique it was to me.
i think people dont get why the score is so strong.
Nah, cinematography
Exactly, I have to disagree with Schaffrillas here, I thought the score was straight up depressing and more importantly haunting. I thought the movie accomplished exactly what it set out to do and I was not bored at any point either. Incredibly disturbing and depressing film, definitely recommend it as a watch. I think its more mature than most other war movies, not because of its violence or anything, but because of its position on war.
@The Freshest Fedora To be fair, Schaffrillas isn't the kind of person who could ever understand this movie.
@KyanPepper Why exactly ? I agree that it wasn't his cup of tea, but do you think there's a specific reason as to why ?
I'm so glad Brandon got the praised he needed. It's so nostalgic having him returned in the film industry, and I hope that he stays healthy for future films. Especially The Mummy 3!!!
There's been a Mummy 3 already
@Anmol Biswas the what now, there's only ever 2 mummy movie
I agree with Shaff on a lot of things, but I honestly think that him saying All Quiet was an "average war movie" is such a (metaphorical) bullet to the chest. All Quiet was honestly such a great movie and leveling it to an average war movie hurts.
And while the score (besides Remains) wasn't as memorable as some other nominations, I absolutely think that the cinematography was amazing. There were several points in this movie where I just marveled at the camera work and the shot comps. Plus, that introduction scene with the soldier dying and his clothes being recycled perfectly set the tone and was already making me prepare for the incoming doom that was about to happen. The lead actor also did a phenomenal job, the crater scene really stands out- everytime he cries, it feels like genuine tears. They're gross, uncontrolled not pretty to hear- it was almost gut-punching.
I could go on but the point is, I respect anyone's point on this movie, it is surely not for everyone. But to anybody calling it an average war movie, it really is so much more than it may seem and the team behind it are talented at their craft. I also highly recommend the BTS for the movie on Netflix, it's great.
the cultural impact of the source material also adds to my respect for this movie, i think this movie and the original movie do the book justice
The 1930 All Quiet is my favourite movie ever, but when I heard there was a new one being made by *Netflix* of all people? Let's just say I wasn't optimistic. But that crater scene? My God. I haven't felt that level of emotion since the 1930 movie. All Quiet is truly great in all adaptations and I'm glad it stayed that way with this one.
All Quiet totally deserved the wins in my opinion. Wayyyy better than 1917 lol. It was one of the most anti-war war films I've seen period, and easily the most beautiful.
Also, Travolta tearing up at the In memoriam knowing that his long life friend was there on the screen and not beside him was heartbreaking
This is really what the Oscar’s should be: recognition. Recognition for the hard work so many people put into each area of putting together a piece of art. No forced comedy or cutting for time. Just time for saying “hey look at what these cool people have done! Isn’t that cool?!”
I think eventually we will get that as this years Oscar has taken significant steps towards that idealistic recognition of the craft.
Some facts.
It's a mix of recognition, respect but also dignity. All qualities that slowly but surely disappeared in previous ceremonies and i am damn glad this year was a complete 180 on the trend
Yes!! Idk why for so many years they’ve even *included* comedy at the Oscars. It’s not stand up night at the bar, it’s supposed to be awarding people who deserve it.
Exactly!! No more skits, no more unfunny bits that are so annoying, just make it about films and a celebration of the beauty and the hard work of films.
An an Indian really happy to win our first Oscar, delighted to see other countries also getting better recognition
isn't our first.
@Varun Kumar it is. No Indian production won an Oscar before.
@Varun Kumar I mean it's actually big thing for South Indians tho. The shit Bollywood has gotten upto lately 💀 it's a big thing if you ask me
@Varun Kumar Only if you count Co-Productions, in which case Gandhi and Slumdog Millionaire would be India's first wins. For a fully Indian production, RRR is the first.
@dusty bawls Speaking of which, the Tamil documentary 'Elephant Whisperers' also won the Oscar in its category this year!
Quan was definitely the main highlight in Oscars. Surprisingly I didn't expected his speech to be more inspiring than any previous Oscar winners so congratulations to him.
Just want to say the boy the mole the fox and the horse was so incredibly deserving of best animated short. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE. When I was going through a really rough patch I watched that film and I cried. Not only is every frame a beautiful masterpiece, and does so much justice to the book, but it also contains such a powerful message about kindness and compassion for one’s self that brings anyone to tears. I bought the hardcover version of the book for my 20th birthday and the artistry is simply phenomenal
Can 100% vouch. I got to watch it with my mum in the cinemas as it was showing with all the other oscar animated short nominees, and we absolutely loved it. My Mum just quite literally said, “I feel like I just got years worth of therapy in one short movie” and I couldn’t’ve agreed more. I was so happy to hear that it won.
i disagree. Every line feels like an ai generated motivational quote
I watch this movie since it came out like once a week. I cry every time
Will check it out, thanks for the recommendation
Looooove the book! We actually own two copies: one I bought for myself, and the other was given to my mom as a retirement gift with the gifter having no knowledge of me also having it.
Ke Huy Quan gave another speech to the press backstage after the ceremony and said that ALL of his (main) Goonies co-stars reached out to him in congratulations, it was wholesome as fuck! This is what he said:
"You know, before this night started um..Corey Feldman, one of my Goonies brothers called. I was talking to Kerri Green. And of course, tonight, Jeff Cohen - who is my entertainment lawyer - was with me in the audience, which is why I thanked him. Because, I love all of them so much! And every single one of them is so happy! Sean reached out, Josh, Martha. We are always bonded. We're family forever. Goonies never say die!"
So god damn cute!
I think All Quiet on the Western Front deserved its wins. It’s not some, “standard war movie,” the battle scenes are literally horrifying and gruesome. The score also sells every moment making it feel real. Plus Germany usually doesn’t win anything at the Oscars so it was nice.
I just really appreciated how this year, the animation category didn't start with the presenters treating animation as "kiddy stuff". Not only did Guillermo give his "animation is a medium" speech, but Dwayne Johnson explained that animation is pretty much tied to film history.
That was a good surprise, and hopefully, this continues every year, along with more animated films being nominated in the other categories.

Schaff I’m sure you won’t take it to heart but if you’re reading this ignore the bots, they’re degenerate clout-chasers and I can promise all of your fans, 100% of them, wish you the best and are really glad that you’re getting on with what you love. Great video as always
Praying to god your comment ages well lmao
I literally made this exact same comment lmao
@despiritedSoul2 man is there just a bot generator for VNcliprs losing loved ones/VNcliprs dying?!?
I'm crying tears of happiness. I didn't even fucking realize that Ke Huy Quan was the child actor from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom... I've seen this movie so many times, that's what unites me and my father. I always felt like this kid drinking alcohol and driving had a hard time. I glad he finally won an Oscar. I won't watch his acceptance speech yet because I'll probably die of excessive crying.
The score for All Quiet on The Western front added to the feeling of dread and hopelessness. What made the movie unique is that everyone dies, there are no heroes in WW1 and this film was unique in its lense as a truly anti-war movie.
How could anyone say all quiet on the western front was a boring movie ??? I honestly believe it was unreal and deserved best picture. Seeing the true realities of war and the mental development of the main character from the beginning to end of the movie was unreal.
I love when people say that about All Quiet. Because, while true, people treat it like it's a new concept. Like the two adaptations before it and the novel just never existed. Which I guess just shows how good it is. You forget it, then, just like war, you get thrown right back into it without warning.
I hope they do the thing where they showed off each category every year. Like showing all the costumes from the costuming category on stage or the history lesson on cinematography. I really liked that cuz I felt it not only helped us as audience members understand those aspects of film better but it also showed a lot of respect for those respective noms
I’d recommend checking out the novel of all quiet on the western front. It’s really impactful and a very important novel. The history of the author behind it is also super interesting.
The fact that Del Toro's Pinocchio was the first non-CGI animated feature to win that category since Curse of the Ware Rabbit is astounding to me considering the latter came out the day I was born. I *grew up* in the time it took for a stop-motion feature to get a win again.
I watched it when I was a little kid and loved every single scene of that movie, though my all-time favorite was Chicken Run. Pinocchio's victory brought justice to the amazing world of stop motion animation.
The only two stop motion animated films to EVER win best animated fearuew
Puss in Boots 2 was a better film that tackled the issue of mortality with more focus and heart. Pinocchio just came off as pretentious with a shallow protagonist comparatively. But Pinocchio had the Oscar award darling as the director so obviously it'd win...
@MyStringSnapped I think both films were great
@Lyle .G I only wish another hand drawn animated film would win Best Animated Feature since the ONLY hand drawn animated film to do so is Spirited Away.
The Banshees of Inisherin not winning at least something is honestly really sad to me. I really enjoyed that movie, but oh well. The Oscars being actually good this year (and animation getting at least an ounce of respect) is good enough news for me.
While I always respect Shaffs opinion, vid is a good example of how theater kids and certain genres aren't a good mesh and distance should be kept lol
Agreed. Love schaff, but it’s clear he is entirely not the audience and maybe not that well versed on why war movies are what they are, what importance they serve, and most importantly, why they’re necessary enough to continue being made. That and this was Germany’s first big attempt at adapting it and they knocked it out of the park in my opinion. The metaphor that “war kills all soldiers” was visually displayed perfectly, especially by the ending.
I feel like they gave the Oscar to Jamie Lee Curtis instead of Stephanie Hsu because she's getting old and they wanted her to have an award. I genuinely can't justify another reason. She did an absolutely fantastic job, don't get me wrong, but Stephanie Hsu was probably the best part of the movie. Every time she was on screen she just had such a demanding presence and left a lasting impact with her performance.
The thing that hit me most was when John Travolta got emotional when talking about all the actors and actresses that we had lost this year, paying homage to Olivia Newton-John. My school decided to do grease for this year’s production, and I got Danny Zuko and a great friend of mine got Sandy. It just hurts so much to think how Olivia is actually gone, and seeing Travolta say “We are forever Hopelessly devoted to you” almost brought me to tears. It made me feel ever more indebted to the character of Danny Zuko and the show of Grease, it made me feel even more devoted to that friend who took the roll with me, to my Sandy Counterpart. And it showed me the strength and beauty that art, be it film, musical, book or animation, can impose on people.
RIP Olivia Newton-John
We will forever be hopelessly devoted to you.
I’m just glad All Quiet on the Western Front, a film made in Germany by German producers, got the recognition it deserved despite it being a foreign film
My parents have always been longtime watchers of the Oscars, so I have done my very best to educate them on the importance of animation and how much work really goes into them. It made me feel good to see how happy they were during Guillermo’s speech, as he said, “Animation is Cinema. Animation is not a genre.”
I feel you.
My parents are also huge cinema nerds, mom is more passionate about scores and music while dad on actors and cinematography. I grew up loving animation the most, and i've been getting really discouraged in recent years seeing animation so bullied and diminished by movie industry and public alike... hope this year reignited some sparks, thanks to del toro and especially Puss in Boots
@Sere Naso Thanks. It’s nice to know there’s a whole lot of us out there fighting for animation’s recognition.
If you're talking about recent years it's because animated movies have been pretty mediocre in recent years. I mean encanto, soul, toy story 4 were the last three oscar winners and they were so average.
@Robert One word: Spiderverse.
@Robert Isle of Dogs, Kubo, GDT Pinocchio and Spiderverse all came out in the past 5 years and all stand amongst the best in the medium
Of course the only time I miss the Oscars is when it's actually good and I've actually watched the movies nominated 🗿🗿🗿
So happy about RRR getting the spotlight it deserved. It would have swept the Oscars if it had been nominated for best movie
So glad to see my beloved All Quiet On The Western Front getting so much love in this comment section! Sure, not everyone will like it - and that's fine: everyone is entitled to their own opinion - but I'm just happy to see it resonated with a lot of people, both inside and outside the Academy.
I don't understand the thought process of depriving editors of an Oscar that they above and beyond deserve just because it's the most obvious choice lol. That was wild to hear. But yeah this was by far one of the best ceremonies in a long time!! Hard to decide whether this or 2020 was better
I’m gonna have to disagree with you on one thing Schaff, and that’s All Quiet on the Western Front was an incredible film. It held no punches, the cinematography was amazing, and god damn that score was amazing. That music sends chills down my spine. But I can respect opinions, so we’re all good
It was such a hit the Oscars of this year that the rating increased by a 12%!
And I hope the Oscars start noticing WHAT WE WANT as an audience
*Here is the full clip explaining why dad left you: (Making fun of bots)*
vnclip.net/video/0fyTPb-l-Ek/video.html
Omg the bots :0
I knew there was a good chance the Oscars would not let us down and make the same mistakes twice that were made the previous year with Amy Schumer, Gabrielle Union, Will Smith, Megan Thee Stallion and Lily James. 🥺 Pretty PLEASE let Patty Jenkins or Greta Gerwig win Best Director next year!
Ignoring all the other comments I agree with you, this honestly reminds me of Sonic the Hedgehog these days, the company now knows what the fans want and because of that we've had 3 years of good Sonic content. Obviously this needs improvement, but there is hope we can have another phenomenal ceremony
Side Note:
Every ceremony is better when there is no Amy Schummer
Seeing Brendan with a smile on his face after everything that man has been through made me smile. Everytime I smiled in this Oscar was when someone acted in a way human. Thet felt real and not at all like some rich snob.
Another thing they got right was bringing best editing back to the main show. Relegating what is arguably the most important aspect of filmmaking to the non-televised portion was absolutely insane.
A lot of people seem to agree that Jaime Lee Curtis received the Oscar in recognition for her career as a whole (rather than for her specific role in EEAAO). While I'm very happy for Jaime, I do hope that Angela Bassett gets her flowers. 💐
(Also, I've loved Stephanie Hsu since she was Karen the Computer and Christina Canigula, and I can't wait to see what she does next!)
This was my favorite oscars ever. EEAAO was my favorite movie of 2022 so it was like watching my team win the superbowl but even more because I identified with the film so much as a Taiwanese-American. Truly one of the awards shows of all time
As someone who watched and loved both Everything Everywhere all at once and The Whale, Hong Chau definitely deserved the win and imo was robbed.
All Quiet on the Western Front was amazing. I've rarely felt such dread and hopelesness from watching a movie before. There was no heroic sacrifice or the hero saving the day. It just showed how pointless war is and that soldiers are victims of it too. It really felt like a true anti-war movie.
Yeah. I really feel like James just didn’t get the movie at all and was expecting it to be something different going on. Especially seeing how he ranked 1917 over it. 1917 is great, don’t get me wrong, but definitely a way more generic and typical “war hero saves the day” movie than All Quiet was.
@Jesse Exactly. This one actually had real weight to it
All Quiet was probably my top 3 in War films because of how it's presented and the story
Biggest problem with the movie is probably the ending missing the point (and title to be precise) of the book.
I will say that I did wish that there were more Indian dancers during the Natu Natu performance. But other than that, it was a well put together ceremony. Not to mention that I'm happy for the wins for Original Song and Short documentary, considering that those were the two first wins for the country of India 💛
Maybe I’m just biased about all quiet because I’m German but I think this movie deserved all the Oscar’s it got. I only watched few movies that got me so emotional and disgusted about the topic war. And from my perspective I can definitely say that it’s not only great that this movie has won because it’s a genuinely good movie but after Germany got nominated in so many categories it truly brought hope to the German film industry. I think because all quiet won there are gonna be a lot more international movies in the future and don’t get me startet about the effect this movie has in the present time. The Oscar’s have always been political in a way and so I think it was the right move to first of all nominate an anti war movie in so many categories to maybe get more people to watch it and acknowledge it.
Totally agree on Jamie Lee Curtis winning an award. She was good but it wasn’t Oscar worthy and I wish it was Stephanie Hsu because she was phenomenal
I'm probably biased since I'm argentinian, but I really, really wanted Argentina 1985 to win; Not only for the gag of winning the third one (Ganamos la tercera), but also because it is simply, in my opinion, a great movie. It taught me about my country's history with the storys of the witnesses, that were truly heartbreaking, and that final speech that Darín's character does, that "Nunca Más" really brought me to tears. To put it simply, it made me quite emotional.
Despite my bitter thoughts, however, it was a well deserved win for All Quiet in the Western Front. All in all, like you said, a surprisingly good Oscar's.
And to anyone who is interested in documental-like movies, that talk about a dark period in a country's history, I hugely recommend Argentina 1985.
Before watching this year's Oscars, I was able to watch The Whale, like, literally the afternoon before the broadcast. And honestly? It's surprising it wasn't nominated for more than just 3 awards (Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Makeup). It was so emotionally raw and moving that I was straight up sobbing as credits rolled. If you all end up watching it, be prepared for some emotional suckerpunches, but also for probably one of the best films of the last few years, at least in my subjective opinion. I hope you're able to give it a view in the near future.
TL;DR - watch The Whale, you cowards.
I’m glad you liked the film but I gotta admit I’ve watched almost every film nominated this year and the whale was my least favourite. Especially Sadie Sinks character. She felt like a stereotypical “I’m a bad girl because my parents hate me” kinda person. It was kinda cringe. Brendan Fraser was great though.
I’m so very glad Brendan Fraser and Ke Huy Quan are Oscar winners now. They both supported each other so much this award season!
Logan {UTTP} Hey! What the hell?
@Omar Tafur its a bot, ignore it
They were both phenomenal. I can't wait to see what they bring us in the future.
Glad Brendan Fraser won; just wish he'd won for literally almost anything else.
Both so incredibly talented, both could also be considered “ come back “ roles for the two which makes their wins even sweeter
I like how Shaff treats stuff like the Oscars like a tv show or movie.
I’m so happy that Ke Huy Quan and Brendan Fraser made massive comebacks, Everything Everywhere All at Once got awards that were well-deserved, Harrison Ford and Ke Huy Quan had a little Indiana Jones reunion, Jimmy Kimmel wasn’t totally awful compared to his other times hosting, and overall, this Academy Awards was actually mostly enjoyable.
I have never bothered to watch the Oscars before, but I wasn't asleep yet when it was about to start (which was at midnight where I am), so I watched the first 20 minutes. They addressed the elephant in the room (KEEP MY WIFES NA... you know the rest) early on, started off with animation, didn't treat animation like it is just for kids or a lesser art form then the winners have a short + genuine speech. Surprisingly, I was satisfied.
I don't watch the Oscars, but I'm glad you enjoyed this year's ceremony! And I'm glad most of the wins this year actually seemed deserved. 🙂
the boy, the mole, the fox and the horse. the best animated short. my. fucking god was it amazing. it's the only piece of media that has actually made me cry. it's.. a love letter to the lonely, to the lost and the people in pain. i can't put it into words how much it means to me. it just.. i can't do it justice in words. i'm sure someone else can
I'm very happy for Jaime Lee Curtis receiving her Oscar, it's long overdue. that being said Stephanie Hsu was so brilliant in EEAAO and she definitely deserved the W
Man, these bots are out of control.
What the fuck are these bots. Spamming is one thing, but disrespecting a dead individual for clout is beyond me.
Yes its true that its long overdue, but the oscars are given out to the actors/actress and movies based on their impact and overall performance THAT year. Jamie Lee Curtis was a good actress, but in my opinion she wasnt the best supporting role of the nominees or in EEAAO
I teared up so bad seeing Quan and Brendan Fraser winning Oscars what a moment seriously they deserve this so much I'm so happy for them
I always tear up seeing Brenan happy. Good tears. It's always so wholesome.
This year's Oscar's was one of the only times I genuinely felt glad to watch the whole way through 🎉
Just hearing these speeches being described made me happy I’m so glad so many people got their favourite movies winning and even I’ve never seen them I could see the impact on the recipients faces
Love that they start it off with Animation. The Rock's Speech was so Great and Even though I wanted to see Puss in Boots, I was happy to see Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio Win, Stop Motion is Amazing! It really deserves the Oscar! 👏
That moment with Key Huan and Harrison was wholesome af especially for me a huge Indiana Jones fan
Indy and Short Round reunited, at long last!
That moment was so wholesome
They're an unstoppable and inseperable duo
luoS detiripseD wtf
And when he hugged Brendan Fraser during the aftershow….
I REALLY wanted "Argentina 1985" to win, but I'm glad for the rest of the Oscars overall❤
The win for Pinocchio was absolutely amazing but when I looked at how they voted & Turning Red nearly won
That was a big save for the Academy
I’m so glad Pinokkio won the animation award! I loved that movie, brings me to tears on every rewatch
I missed most of this year's Oscars due to watching Fox's Animation Domination but I enjoyed what I saw. I'm so glad that my favorite movie of 2022 dominated this year's Oscars. That probably would've been unthinkable a few years ago! 😁👏
As a chinese/asian girl, I’m so happy Everywhere Everything all at once cast won! Gives me hope
Ke Huy Quan is such a beautiful human being. I cried when he won and never have I ever cried for a person I never met. I desperately hope he gets the career he deserves.
I loved the moment where he and Brendan Fraiser hugged
Gay
@Darren Gordon-Hill How? He/she was just saying he liked his speech. How does that make him gay? Also what would be wrong with he/she being gay?
Oprator SHUT
Him hugging Harrison Ford had me BAWLING it was so cute
The moment when Gel Del Torero made his speech on “Animation is Cinema” gave me needed hope for the future of animation.
I actually kinda feel bad for missing out on this Oscars show lol. I wasn’t looking forward to the show this year, but I’m surprised that it’s actually good this year. Awesome video. I really liked hearing both of your opinions.
The Oscars were good, there were some movies I think could've gotten something
NOPE was robbed for sound, like holy shit if you could nominate a movie with buttplug fights nominate the horror sci-fi movie
Bodies Bodies Bodies could've gotten a nomination best original screenplay, it was genuinely such a good script that deserved something.
Matilda the musical could've gotten a nominations for best actress in a leading role for Alisha Weir's performance as Matilda, and best actress in a supporting role for either Lashana Lynch or Emma Thompson (and maybe a nomination for best original song)
This was probably the biggest hot take ever (besides NOPE) but it's what I believe. I just wish a few more things could be nominated per category so other movies can at least be talked about.
Little late to the party but I think people tend to not think comedic performances are also oscar worthy performances. Hence Jamie Lee Curtis winning. It’s a role that she’s never done before and she took a character that could’ve been largely forgettable and made her one of the most standout moments in the entire film. Even though she didn’t have much screen time. She even had a small emotional arc like all the other characters as well that was surprisingly very touching. To me, her win was very justified, although I do agree that Stephanie Hsu would’ve been a better choice.
I wasn’t expecting this year to be such an improvement. They actually gave animation the respect it deserves. And we got to see both Lady Gaga and Rihanna singing at the Oscars.
the Jamie lee Curtis win is something I like to call a "career" Oscar. It's more about the longevity of the person rather than the particular performance which is rarely their best work.
Not fair for the other actresses tho
@Cole Macgrath yeah true. She should've won one a long time ago
There's a lifetime achievement award, Stephanie hsu was still better, you can say the same for angela Bassett, and also Stephanie hsu was in the same movie a better actor a more important Character and also a white actor getting a award in a movie like that while a Chinese actor doesnr is strange
@I’m a Yeti. don’t make it about race
@I’m a Yeti. You say that like the entire rest of the cast didn't sweep most of the awards.
I'm mad the Northman was shut out. It was such a brutal and trippy and great movie and the fact no one recognized it. It's such a shame.
Glad to see Waymond's actor when best supporting, he was my favorite character.
The fact the goonies guy won an Oscar shows they are really scrapping the barrel. It was much better years ago
One of my film school teachers gave us those play-along ballots and I decided to fill it out. I got twelve of the categories right, and nearly got a thirteenth because I figured EEAAO would win in Costumes instead of Black Panther and switched the latter out. Anyway, super happy for EEAAO and A24 as a whole for their big year!
For those wondering, the categories I got right were Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Adapted Screenplay, Actor, Supporting Actor, Animated Feature, International Feature, Editing, Song, Sound and Makeup/Hair.
I wanted Quiet Girl to win International even though I haven't seen it and it was right up my alley - plus one of my favorite actors was on the jury that selected it as Ireland's entry, but I knew that statistically speaking All Quiet was more likely to win. Was also pleased as punch to see the Guillermo Del Toro Pinocchio get as much awards love as it did - it's so refreshing to see a non-CG movie take the crown for once.
One last thing: we got a visit from prominent film/TV actress Mary Walsh some weeks ago, and she revealed that she was pretty close to securing the film rights to Women Talking, before Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand came into the picture, and she kicks herself now and then especially considering how much awards buzz the final film got.
The most hilarious irony I've seen was Pinnochio outdoing Jack Horner again but the man deserves the W. Much respect for the win!
How did Elvis not win 1 award in this award show? Regarding the wardrobe, they had to make every jumpsuit used in the film accurate to the real ones and in terms of total count, they had to make over 9000 costumes.
I want Ke Huy Quan to be the household name for actors, he deserves everything good that's coming to him
@Oprator did you get offended? I made fun of you then? Didn't know bots had feelings
Fr I love him sm
I hope so too. He's had it so rough, despite having talent in spades.
Nah
through a really rough patch I watched that film and I cried. Not only is every frame a beautiful masterpiece, and does so much justice to the book, but it also contains such a
This just goes to show that even if something is bad right now, that doesn’t mean it’ll stay bad forever. Because change is nature and things DO get better no matter how much we feel to the contrary. That goes for everything whether it be something you love, your issues in life, or even your own country or world, they will all get better in time. =)
Every time all quite on the western front is discussed as bad and boring, my heart always breaks, because i think they talk about the original. The original is one of the best war movies out there. But netflix decided to cut some really important scenes for something that didn't fit in.
Yes totally agreed. This is my alltime favorite ceremony and the first time I have watched in years. I watched because of Everything but was so moved by all the speeches. I was crying quite often. I temporarily got a subscription to live tv just so I could watch the whole ceremony and see these people win their Oscars live. I felt that invested going into it.
you and your family stay in my prayers. thank you for still making us content and making us smile
Both Brendan Fraser and Ke Huy Quan’s Speech Really shows how much the Oscar Meant to them
Wait bots are putting (making fun of bots) in their comments now these mindgames are insane
I’m so happy for Brendan ❤️
luoS detiripseD
HAHHHAHAHAHAHAHA SO FUNNY MAN 😐
@Yami Yugi Me Too, Unfortunately I haven’t seen The Whale Yet but I really want to
lShowSрееd shorts 🅥 I almost fell for it thinking it was a rickroll. Thank god I remembered all the text in the link
I saw the clips and was seriously impressed who was nominated, it warms my heart
I saw Babylon, it was insane. I believe it was just the main cast tossing ideas around, did a line, then wrote the script.
RRR deserved more nominations but I'm so happy and greatful it won its category
Regarding Jamie Lee Curtis' win, I looked it up and the only Oscar with ranked choice voting is the best picture, so if the voters were evenly divided between the clearly better choices then that somewhat explains why she won. Like you said, though, why anyone would've voted for her or nominated her though is the mystery.
All Quiet on the Western Front is one of the greatest war movies of all time. Along with Jojo Rabbit it’s such a beautiful way to show the side of the war that you don’t see. It may just be me having a biased to German history but it was brilliant. The book is amazing as well
i think "all quiet on the western front" is an amazing movie but you really have to be in a specific mood to watch it. It moved me and made me feel disgusted by war even more than I already am. I recommend watching it in German, I think a lot of emotions get lost in dubs :)
I voice the main character in My Year Of Dicks so was able to attend this year and was very pleasantly surprised by the Oscars this year even though I do think we should have taken it for animated short!
I’m glad they didn’t try so hard with gimmicks and just let the Oscars be classy and be about the actual movies.
IMO Banshee should have won best original screenplay, and Top Gun for Film editing. BUT, this is a rare occasion where I don't mind any of the two/three films or actors in the category to take the win. Because they are all equally amazing in its own unique way. I guess that's what Golden Globe are for, Banshee did win several awards there.
man listening to your review of the oscars makes me regret not seeing this live, maybe next year can live up to this same standard
I've never cried as much watching an award show than this. The EEAAO sweep (and especially Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh's wins) and Brendan Fraser being recognized got me right in the heart. I was so happy for all of them.
Eeaao is such a masterpiece my favourite movie EVER
im sorry i just think its incredibly funny to say "EEEH OW" in my mind when i read about comments about eeaao
Ha, same!
Bro cried over a bunch of actors that will never give a crap about you 🤦🏾♂️
You honestly should not be that attached to celebrity's
I actually thought kimmel’s Matt Damon jokes were funny out of nowhere, but he’s definitely done the best job hosting out of anyone I can remember
You guys have to see the whale. It’s a wonderfully resonating story and James I really think you’ll like it because of it’s theatrical origins. You can really tell that the film was based on a play when you watch it and it only strengthens the film. That was the movie that I think deserved a little more love this year but maybe I only love it so much because I haven’t seen tar, banshees, or fabelmans yet.
About the animated short, The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse, I think this one should be given more of a chance. Yes, the premise is a little vague (I mean, we don’t really learn much about the boy’s history). But in a way, it does what The Peanuts gets right: it tells an uplifting, beautiful tale of perseverance, love, and acceptance 😊
Really upsetting not to see Banshees not win anything or even to not see any of the cast (specifically Barry Keoghan) win a thing
