There are more differences between the NLAW and the Javelin and they are used in different situations. The Javelin is self-guided whereas the NLAW is line-of-sight. The NLAW is best at close in contact and the Javelin is a distance shot from a hide. The Javelin’s warhead is different as well. It has a tandem shaped charge warhead to defeat reactive armor or other added defenses to the armor, such as the grills or bird cages. The NLAW is a HEAT round which can also be used as an overhead burst with a proximity fuse. Mr. Starkey, as Defense Editor, should know this. He, as well, left out a great deal of information on MANPADS engagements in the field. He also left out the FIM-92, an oldie but goodie. It was good to see that someone mentioned the Stugna, an ATGM with yet different operational characteristics than the Javelin or NLAW.

I was in the British army back in the day when the best weapons we had to stop a tank were the Milan and the WOMBAT. Amazing how technology has moved on. The vid should have mentioned Ukraine's home developed AT weapon the Stugna., by all accounts a great bit of kit.

NLAW, Javelins are ATGMs, anti tank guided missiles. MANPADS are Stingers and Starstreak.

NLAW has two attack modes: straight on AND also to attack from the top. Just like the Javelin. Also, Javelin is reloadable while you can, but usually don't, reload the NLAW.

They are called ATGM, as MANPAD means man-portable air-defense system.

JAVELINS are actually the most advanced, sophisticated, and technologically astute weapons ever produced. Imagine having a million Superguns. A10's are cool too, nothing beats a minigun.

Ukranian hails more RGW 90 than Nlaws and Javelin mainly because are easier to operate in urban areas

He misspoke. Manpads are Man portable aerial defence, these are anti tank guided missiles or ATGMs

A Russian man woke from a 6 month coma yesterday. On hearing about the Ukraine invasion he said to his friend “You mean 50,000 Russians have been killed, 5000 armoured combat vehicles destroyed, 2000 tanks, 1300 artillery, 250 aircraft, 200 helicopters, and 15 ships and boats, including the Black Sea flagship !? And how about NATO losses ?”

The ‘Defence Editor’ doesn’t know the difference between a MANPADS and an ATGM. Nope; MANPADS are Man Portable Air Defence Systems (shoulder launched anti aircraft missiles). NLAW & Javelin are ATGM’s; Anti Tank Guided Missiles.

NLAWS and Javelins are not MANPADS. They are ATGM’s (anti tank guided missiles). MANPADS (Man Portable Air Defense System) are weapons like the Stinger missile, and are used against low flying aircraft and helicopters.
