Does copying patterns work the same, I notices most of them had mossy stone blocks underneath, except Silence?

    • Green Titan02
      Green Titan02 2 tháng trước +5

Don't you think that the Silence trim droprate is a bit too harsh?
you would need to raid 80 cities on average, which sounds just simply insurmountable.
Why not add it to the warden's lootable? He is a challenge to kill after all and this can be a decent reward (of course the droprate would need to be like 10% or something)

The structures are made of glazed terracotta and if glazed terracotta is anything like ancient ceramics then it makes total sense that they're still colourful, in my home city there are several streets lined with ceramics that are more than a thousand years old and that are still as blue as the day they were put there

    • Harm Berghuijs
Harm Berghuijs 2 tháng trước +144

@Grobusk No that’s not true. In Egypt there are a few temples that were completely hurried underground. The dirt and sand is what protected the paint from the weather. If you look up “temple Esna Egypt” you’ll see what I’m talking about.

  • Spencer
    Spencer 2 tháng trước +701

I like the new ruins. They're actually also somewhat historically accurate, when Pompeii was buried in volcanic ash, most of the buildings were almost entirely preserved, and there's still paint on many of the walls

Just an FYI for all, this is the first time Cyan dye can be made into a quasi-primary dye, leaving Gray and Purple dyes left as the last craft-only dyes

    • Bat
      Bat 2 tháng trước +96

I think either if mojang really wanted to add those dyes, adding plants in the nether or maybe the end would be perfect

    • Daniel Thatcher
Daniel Thatcher 2 tháng trước +93

@Batdefinitely. I still don't get why you can't technically get purple dye from chorus flowers. But a suggestion for grey dye could be that it doesn't even have to be from the nether or end. If they ever implement an actual volcano biome and ever produce an ash block, you could just have something like an ashy flower instead. Obviously they wouldn't be able to grow the same as other flowers because it's an ash flower, but they could then be found in the overworld and the nether.

    • Ascyt
      Ascyt 2 tháng trước +2

Finally these dyes won't just be boring ovals

    • Rubén
      Rubén 2 tháng trước +13

@Daniel Thatcher maybe it is bc chorus fruit is a fruit, imagine you can get red dye from an apple... They need to add new biomes for the flowers that will give purple and gray dyes, its content for the future.

One cool thing I hope they’d add is the ability to create our own suspicious sand/gravel by surrounding any item we want in a crafting table with sand/gravel. Makes for some fun setups for minigames. It’d have NBT data so I’m sure it’ll store things like item enchants and pottery designs. Makes me think the two civilizations had some amount of lasting cultural exchange going on or may have been one and the same. Also, the presence of the Mourner shard in exclusively the cold ocean ruins has similarly large implications for the lore.

X, I disagree with your interpretation of the colors in the trail ruins. The fact that they are buried actually means that (under the right conditions) it would be better for preserving the colors, so I'm glad they stuck with strange, colorful builds rather than going back to the "everything is cracked stone brick" aesthetic. Many of the ancient builds that we have unearthed in the middle east have been found with large colorful murals.

    • Marshall lee 63
      Marshall lee 63 2 tháng trước +245

Yeah i feel like that’s the main reason people seem dislike the trail ruins since it’s quite a lot more colourful and different to the many grey black “stone” structures we usually get

    • fast boi
fast boi 2 tháng trước +245

Personally, my gripe with them is that they're full of sand/gravel, and it doesn't really make sense to me to have sand in the middle of grassy biomes localised entirely within these ruins. I'd be fine if the sand was replaced with suspicious dirt in non-sand biomes, though.

    • Duckified
      Duckified 2 tháng trước +125

@Marshall lee 63 it's nice and refreshing, and it parallels to real life with societies like ancient china, aztec, etc. people are just blinded by the comfort of familiarity and nostalgia.

    • Duckified
      Duckified 2 tháng trước +125

@fast boi the way i interpret it is the structures were built partly using sandstone and normal stone, but over time they fell victim to weathering and eventually broke down into particles. if the people of these societies used terracotta in their jungle structures, what's stopping them from using other foreign resources?

    • Noah Cameron
Noah Cameron 2 tháng trước +123

I think that if these structures were just another boring grey it would be bad because they’re underground, they need something to bring visual intrigue to them when you’ll almost never see one entirely unearthed.

  • Asteria42

I think the trail ruins is very interesting. Like the group rooms, halls, Decor, and the roads, remind of of Ancient Rome. They were pretty advanced, with having road networks made by laying gravel and then paving with rock slabs, somewhat similar to the cobblestone roads. Just about all the old structures look pretty well advanced, and well built for being in ruins.
Considering the Ancient Builders are believed to be pretty advanced, it wouldn't be hard to imagine that they had stuff like what Ancient Rome had

  • IndigoRage
    IndigoRage 2 tháng trước +27

Colorful blocks are good. Reminds me of Minoan ruins irl. Also makes it easier for players to rebuild them to what they might have looked like when they were inhabited. What I don’t like are the random ones by themselves

Being able to get a quantity of terracotta in a variety of colors without having to find a mesa biome is gonna be awesome.

  • Eupharos MC
Eupharos MC 2 tháng trước +10

It feels a bit like they're setting up for bundles to finally be implemented, now that archaeology involves so many loot tables with such a wide variety of "junk." I'm definitely loving the new structures, and the new trim and pitcher plant are pretty sweet, too! I'll also weigh in on the colour aspect of the trail ruins: if they're sealed away from light, air, and water then they would absolutely be as colourful as they were when they were built; ancient desert tombs are often amazingly vibrant when they're first opened, but fade over time once exposed.

  • ethanhenare1
    ethanhenare1 2 tháng trước +42

i really love the colors tbh, i think it makes them feel really unique compared to other Minecraft ruins, and porcelins like that often keep their colour in buried structures irl. I do agree though that it would be cool to have more rooms that contain functional block though

The trail ruins are sooo interesting to me. First they look almost identical to the structures in the Ancient cities if you mix and match, but also it gives us context. The ruins have working work stations, which means it was buried not too long ago. It has intact glass which is a huge sign it was recent, so I just would like to let you know in case your channel mysteriously becomes a theory channel.

  • Georgee

    • Remor
      Remor 2 tháng trước +80

All the "junk" is also a nice selection of potential creative hooks for anyone wanting to rebuild or make lore around the sites and structures. That seems to be the primary idea behind the system, not to be functionally rewarding, but to give people ideas.

    • Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan 2 tháng trước +6

@Ronald Reagan good rewards dont come easy. quit acting spoiled.

    • Remor
      Remor 2 tháng trước +70

@Ronald Reagan Well, that's why archeology is essentially an opt-in system. If you don't care for the creatively inspiring junk loot, then just don't bring a brush and don't try digging through the dusty or soggy, old ruins. This is very much a feature more catered towards a niche audience in the playerbase, not something everyone is forced to make use of. Sometimes the pretty blocks peeking through the ground can just be pretty blocks along your way to beating up the enderdragon or whatever other goals you set for yourself.

I think the ruins are supposed to be reminiscent of Pompei or similar cities that were buried super fast. Archaeologists find those rooms fully bright painted with murals that were preserved really well because of how fast they were buried.

The silence inemerald on godl armor might look insanely cool. I love how complex we can make maps, adventures and also roleplay with these new ones. :O Also the new flower is great, because it is so different. I think pearl would love this in her alien biomes.

I really like how they're trying to encourage exploration in the world. I think nowadays most people don't explore much since they can just farm everything, so having these kinds of things that are only possible to gather through exploration makes things more interesting and gives us things to do even if we've beaten the game.

one thing i think should come with this smiting templates is like upgrades or modifiers that do more than visual looks as it seems odd that we only have one that is used for upgrades but all of the others are for looks. The new structure is cool and i wonder if it might get a few changes as i did like that one room that looked like a forge. Also did you see them tease that they might be working on a new boss mob.

Here’s a challenge: fully and carefully excavate a trail ruin and then rebuild it using a block palette of ONLY the items you find in the ruins! With maybe only one exception: a block can be substituted for one of its variants, like if you find a pink glass pane, then you can use pink glass blocks. In other words, same material, just different form. Like stairs, slabs, etc…

    • IceMetalPunk
      IceMetalPunk 2 tháng trước +5

Yes! I'll start by saying it's certainly a huge step in the right direction, and I greatly appreciate the devs for implementing it 😊 But... It's still got issues. It solves the "filtering on output instead of input" issues that lead to interference with regular sculk sensors; but it's still based on redstone signal strength, so it's still got the pigeonhole problem.
If we could filter for specific game events instead of categories, it would be nearly perfect; and if those game events were then separated between player-generated events and non-player events, that would make it the absolute perfect version it can be.

    • Remor
      Remor 2 tháng trước +1

It certainly solves one issue, but another big one I've heard is that the activation timing of sculk is tough to work with. I wonder if that will be addressed as well, considering how powerful that would make this wireless redstone.

The new Silence Armour Trim is honestly incredible and I love it. I think trialing a thicker design on all of the armour trims might be a great idea too, as it will make the trims feel embroided into the armour more, instead of seemingly being "glued on". Silence is the extreme level of thickness, and deserves its own level considering it's rarity, although increasing the detail on each of the other trims would also be a cool idea.

    • Remor
      Remor 2 tháng trước +14

The thing is, I don't think Silence is intentionally done like that. If the application of materials was inversed, the pattern would fall perfectly in line with the standard set by the other trims. Plus, this trim, while undeniably looking exceptionally cool right now, has the problem of making it tough to read for onlookers what material the armor is originally made from and what, if any, extra functional modifications it may or may not have (a category of smithing templates I am really hoping the devs end up making use of, just to make the meta less monotone).

@Remor i feel like that ambiguity for the base armor might be the point. It can give people more a few more options for colored armor without sacrificing protection, and adds a new layer of potential trickery for multiplayer worlds that have pvp

    • Remor
      Remor 2 tháng trước +4

@Zion What's the L for? If Silence stays the way it is, I'd be fine with it, since it looks really cool and makes ancient cities a little more worthwhile. I just don't think it will stay the same for game design reasons.

I like those new ruins, making a dig site to slowly unravel the structure and using the brush to get the more delicate stuff, then trying to interpret the story of the place, if they decide to make some in plains I hope they add skeletons that aren't mobs to truly make it feel like archaeology

Also incorporating whatever portion of the loot table you find could get interesting to make each of these places feel unique in their reconstruction, not just due to the procedural differences.

  • Finn Else-McCormick
    Finn Else-McCormick 2 tháng trước

The structure post-process stuff is what the trail ruins are using to add suspicious blocks (amoung other bits of randomisation I would assume). It's a way for blocks in the structure to be procedurally changed after it's generated.
