For the brand that rewrote the book on muscle-car horsepower, it would've been a disappointment if the pinnacle of the Hellcat V-8 didn't crack four figures. Thankfully, when it comes to horsepower, Dodge isn't in the business of disappointing. That's also why for the grand finale it resurrected the Demon moniker and built the ultimate streetable dragster. Enter the 2023 Challenger SRT Demon 170. It summons an otherworldly 1025 hp and 945 pound-feet of torque from its supercharged 6.2-liter V-8.

I'm not even a muscle car guy, but man will I miss this era of Dodge. I absolutely love their no-fs-given attitude with their entire product line. We are gonna look back on these cars as icons of American performance.
Well . I'm not even a car guy but man i will miss this era of dodge
Dodge is no longer cool
@Jacob Fausnightyou sound slow
@Mike Waller they never said it was the last year until this year where have you been ?
I love the no compromise approach, too bad most of these will sit in people's garage waiting as an investment to flip in a few years.
People are already trying to unload demons and cats and taking huge impatient losses on them.
Lmfao hell no its still a damn challenger, most will get driven, aint no one making shit in a few years. In 20 years youll make a little bit, but it aint even worth it at that point whos tryna wait 20 years to make 80k way better ways to make money.
Don’t know where you see that… Even used HC going for crazy $$
Yea we get at least 6-7 jailbreaks a week at our dealer in new and majority are going to collectors they don’t even want the interior unwrapped.
@Rock Diesel Not me 💯💯 I know the worth of mine is going to skyrocket so ima have fun and hold on for a few years 😁
Words cannot describe how distressing it is to be an absolute car nut and not having the ability to own any of these cars before they're completely eradicated😢
fr heartbreaking
Fr… I just turned 22 and I’m getting my life together, but I still have a while until I can drop 100 G’s on a car, and all the good ones will probably be gone by then ;(
@Jack Hagar You will be able to get one someday...will probably drop a lot for it, but will be worth it.
Kind of sad to see this era come to an end. I was lucky enough to own two hellcats over the years. Good memories 😢
In most stories the hero cruises off quietly into the sunset. In this story, the unforgettable Challenger is not going quietly. To the Challenger, and to the last remaining gasoline fanatics at Dodge…thank you!
I’m a BMW fan till my very last breath, but seeing this makes me kinda emotional. Never really liked muscle cars but I always had respect for them and their capabilities. This is truly the end of the ICE. Once you see Dodge going electric, it’s really over cuz Dodge has always been the king of muscle. Let’s cherish these cars as much as we can before we won’t be able to anymore
King of muscle? Yeah I beg to differ…
@Cesar Think what you want
@Rich_Forever94 yeah, we all do.
Nobody makes the best car
@JeepCherokeeful yea, perfect car is a very far fetched concept
As a Challenger owner, it makes me really happy to see dodge kick it off with a bang
How many speeding tickets have you amassed and be honest 😂
@Ze Moose I swear on my mom, I’ve never been pulled over before or got any tickets but I’ve had some close calls
@Ze Moose if it's a RT probably not many.
@Ze Moose I got one in two years not bad
Yours is probably a V6 though. 😂
Incredible car. Stealership markup on these will be so ridiculous its never going to be worth it. Shame
Yep
in before $300k.
In 20 years it will be worth million dollars guaranteed
dodge was sayin somethin about possibly selling it straight from them and not letting dealerships get ahold of em
@Zydn press x for doubt.
They were absolutely worthless in the demon market. Even more so rn. I have no hope for them rn we normal plebs that can almost barely afford and are willing to risk it
will never see it under 110k
The most impressive thing about this is that an OEM production vehicle can handle and put down all that power on a prepped surface without destroying itself in the process.. Lol. Neat.
Easy really, build to the same specs as guys are modding their cars to over 1000 whp and offer it from the factory. Most ones don’t do it because of the warranty issue when people start beating up on them and it isn’t easy to figure out when they pushed beyond what the car was made to do. Then they have to worry about finishing returns on pricing these cars since few can buy them and they make less off them unless they price them ridiculously ( Ferrari/Bugatti prices for a Dodge would be stupid regardless of the performance).
This car represents peak OEM American muscle car. Incredible!
no it does not
@Misery Party What does?
@da324 Any muscle car that innovates
@Misery Party FYI, the numbers you can run with a new car with a warranty, straight off the showroom floor, that doesn't also cost most of a million dollars (or more) is innovation.
@Misery Party It absolutely does. To argue otherwise is to show your ignorance. There is nothing, NOTHING, that even touches this. From anyone.
As someone with a 70's era Challenger in his garage I will say I love this car... it's way out of my price range sadly. I'm more than a little bitter that, in general, the automotive direction towards electric as this is largely due to government coercion and NOT due to market and/or technology.
I was in the same position as you are now. I owned a 1970 Plymouth AAR cuda since 1973 that I absolutely loved and kept for 48 years. But the longer I owned and drove the car which I did, the less and less I enjoyed driving it. Old cars are amazing to own but actually driving them is not so great after a while. They drive pretty crappy, ride pretty crappy, crappy seats with vinyl were quite uncomfortable and made my back and ass sweat to soaking wet, were fast for the time but not so much now, were poorly insulated so heat from the engine bay and exhaust underneath made the car get quite warm inside even on cooler days. And honestly I got sick of the attention the car drew everywhere I went and I got sick of telling the "My cuda" story. So even though I swore I never would I sold the car in 2021 and because the car had appreciated in value so much over the years I was able to buy a brand new '21 Challenger Scat Pak paid in full and boy I gotta tell you SOOOOO much better and way more actual fun to drive. Don't really miss the 'cuda and definitely not sorry I sold it. It was time.....
Then whos buying all the electric cars? And why is the quickest vehicle in the world electric?
@noncog1 I'm not saying there isn't a market for coal powered cars... I'm saying it is artificially boosted by the government/s policies... NOT buyers. The fact that Dodge's president of this division cited MULTIPLE times the regulatory push towards electric kind of makes my point.
Case in point... the market wants the sound of an engine or Dodge wouldn't be putting fake noise into their upcoming electric. If the sole driving factor was customer preference there still would be a market for Duracell cars... it would be much smaller however and, maybe, over time they would win over market share... or maybe not. I'd be OK with that... I do NOT like government/s like CA, for example, trying to put laws in place to make gasoline powered cars ILLEGAL. It's antithetical to a free society and frankly, it's stupid when the state cannot produce enough electricity for their needs right now and has no apparent long term plan to address this shortfall except to add drastically to electricity demand with dumb ass bans.
precisely
@Hal Jalikakik the electric cars that actually sell in meaningful numbers dont have fake exhaust sound. As a matter of fact, the only cars you can actually buy with fake exhaust sounds are ice cars. The noises are just an example of dodge selling to an emotional, not logical, customer base, which is why they can milk a 20yo architecture better than anyone else, but also why they cant sell anything to anyone other than their established demographic and all their other products fail. Electric cars are coming, itll be a while before i buy one, but most of the market will shift long before i do. Government incentives absolutely make sense in some areas, this one included. Remember, its government coercion that keeps crime illegal, keeps monopolies at bay, and now tries to keep us from destroying this planet
Im still impressed that a car like a challenger does 0-60 in 1.66s
It’s all about the rubber and the suspension. The problem with the typical factory challenger Redeye is they throw lousy tires on them and most people don’t know how to launch them
Obviously that time will be on a highly prepped drag surface only
@matt someone with an SRT yep that’s why the magazine times are usually crap. I’ve seen stock redeyes do 10.3s with a tire swap.
On a regular road with stock tires, more like over 4s. 😂
@Asian sex symbol (natty fitness) bruh. With those tires it will be probably less than 3 sec.
What a beast!! Dodge smashed it out of the park. Hard to believe this is a factory vehicle. 10 out of 10!
What a monster. Man where did i go wrong in life to not be able to afford one.
Not going to school
Not true....I never went to school. I just worked hard and saved. I could buy two of these...but just don't impress me that much. Big heavy boats to me
you, me, we get 20 mates together, hear me out we all put in 5k, I get it Monday morning to Monday afternoon then you so on
@Alabaster who’s paying insurance? Who pays when it gets crashed? Do we all split all the costs all the time? I’d be down. Consider me in 🤘🏻
A good college in STEM
This is badass and I’m not even a muscle car guy. It’s pretty much a middle finger to all of today’s crazy policies on the way out.
You know it's crazy when the supercharger has more liters than most small car engines.
As a Mopar guy, this is probably the saddest era ever. But my guess is, after a few years of them trying to force EV on us, it will fail. They will bring back ICE and hopefully life will be restored.
Everything becomes soulless and horrible when you let Schlomo run everything. Cars are no exception.
YES!! 🎉
@Gigachad TJK solomon was a nice guy
❤ E-cats
Same!!!!!!! I hope that next EV challenger Will be a flop.
Ah but imagine a city in 50 years, full of EV eggs. It’s 7pm. Breezy. Not much noise from the road at all. Then as if awakened from the depths of Hell itself your hear the bark of one of these starting. The idle settles as the engine warms. You can hear the idle a block away and around the corner. Suddenly it screams! Blazes around the corner and past you! Yeah. The future looks dim. But our children’s children will be ever more captivated by these beasts.
That's exactly what the song " Red Barchetta " by Rush was about. It came out in 1981.
5 years = 50%
10 years = ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Reminds me of that classic Rush song "Red Barchetta" where in future days combustion engine cars are illegal.
they should rename the song.
I wish my Dad could've seen this. Truly the king of stock horsepower.
Not a Dodge guy but this is absolutely sick. The way cars should be! Job well done Dodge, job well done 🍻
Pretty sick! Cool to see Dodge break the 1k HP barrier on a production car. Serious question though, how long do the catalyst last on this thing? 10 passes? lol
That's not a concern.
I wish my grandfather was around to see this level of performance and where things have come from his muscle car days. What a time to be alive when this is FACTORY.
Ford was making factory cars built for the strip, around 200k.
Saved the average guy $400,000 in learning curve and parts.
This isn't a new idea.
Some psychopath out there is gonna tune one of these things to make over +2000 HP. I can feel it.
Hennessey will make one with 1500, but that's if they don't blow it up testing other products without asking, or even build it in the first place and keep your 60k deposit
And it will run a 8.7 quarter-mile because it won’t have grip
people already building and racing 2k plus horse 3rd gen hemis
@JuPac better yet we’re about to witness a new generation of people makes these into planes… 🗿
@Zoffy 💀💀💀
Hard to believe it's more than a quarter second faster to 60 than an the Tesla Model S Plaid
That's insane!
Ya but bro I bet it can't do under 10 s quatermile under normal surface
and it sounds much better too
And you get to keep your nuts
And it's less kobalt mining by chinese slaves for batteries.
I’d take the demon any day of the week and twice on Sunday but that number from the video about the Dodge was on a “prepared” surface. I’m pretty sure the plaid would still get the hole shot with it’s AWD but the Demon would reel it in by the 1/8th.
@Mark Shank on prep the tesla wouldn't keep up because it's not set up for prep. I don't think the roadster is gonna release in the next 3 years, but even if it does I doubt it will beat the demon 170
Thats insane! Absolutely love how this thing sounds and man those numbers 😱 but am i really seeing something leaking underneath?
Right at the start …..drip drip drip!
I own a sti and an evo. Never been big into muscle cars. But man it’s sad to see this era end for muscles. This thing is a beast and has all my respect 😮💨😮💨🔥🔥
Love it. If your going to drop 150k or more into an American Vehicle this is it. Unlike the Z06 which is commanding over 200k this will absolutely hold its value.
That thing literally looks like a miniature tank and did 0-60 in 1.66 secs. Incredible
I remember when 320 horsepower was alot the whole twin turbo 3000gt Supra 300zx era ….at that time thinking a car would be manufactured with this much horsepower strait out of the factory was unheard of….. wow how times have changed
When the terminators came out it was like hooooly shit lmaoo good times.
Not a muscle guy but I'd love to get behind the wheel of one of these
It so sad to see this era dying :( What a unit
Same as the old Challengers with left over parts, yet Stellantis is charging an exorbitant price. The wide body apparently only applies to the rear of the vehicle for the front fender panels are not wearing the 'fender flares'. Maybe, they ran out and just had enough to make a certain amount. Wait until one drives in for service or tries to acquire parts.
* We are sure that the heads on the engine are made in China and Brazil and all the parts are outsourced.
I am sad that this generation of American muscle is over, but I am glad I was able to experience it in my lifetime. Dodge ended it with a bang.
It's sad to think that most of these are going to end up in the junk-yard due to people showing off and losing control of these RWD monsters.
Dodge is the greatest when it comes to American muscle cars. What a great last hurray for our beloved v8 gas cars!
Damn. Dodge is going all in. This is crazy horsepower.
It looks like this 2023 Dodge Demon 170 will be the ultimate street legal drag strip racing car. It will be interesting to see videos of this car when the videos come out.
Definition of going out with a bang 💥
Let's see EVs match this for performance, range, and overall power!
This an amazing muscle car!! Absolutely stunning!! I also, think that’s why ford, didn’t reveal their next generation GT 500 cobra yet. Now let’s how Ford, or perhaps Chevy, reacts with their next generation muscle car. Computation, will be good, for consumers!! Having said that, going from this beautiful, Challenger, to an electrification. Will not in best interests of dodge, I suspect!! 🤔
Now imagine. "Also available in a manual transmission"
If it was manual it would be running much slower. It's a drag car focused on 1/4 mi times
@TheDumbConspirator it's more a collectible than a drag car. And it'll certainly be used more so as a collectible.
@Ryan Dono let me reword that, dodge intended for this car to be a drag strip car focused on quarter mile times, yes owners will most likely stow it in an air conditioned garage, but dodge meant for it to be a drag strip car focused on quarter mile times.
@TheDumbConspirator not even with a good driver it’d probably just gain a few tenths.
@john cena good luck getting off the line with a manual in this thing
Had a 70 Road Runner back in my day. I’m 67 now but still pine for a muscle car.
I’m sure I’d be cruising around like a savage in this.
You must know you’d love to see what it could do.
You’re youthful self would be reengaged as soon as you started it.
Every red light you’d rev the engine for that coveted I got the horsepower right here folks feeling.
But alas the wife would tell me those days are over old man.
But the grandchildren would be jumping in for a ride….you’d be happy as can be.
What an amazing send off, such a conflict of emotions right now
😭one last punch of ICE car and it actually beat the EVs right before it’s death, what a legend
For real! What a shame!😢
One last punch for all manufacturers or just Dodge?
@gibz pretty much all manufacturers, I’m confident this will be the fastest quarter mile ICE car in human history
@evan leo cool! Straight lines, not that interesting but hey you're probably right
And do you mean production ICE car?
I'm saddened to see it go, but at least it reclaimed the title of fastest production vehicle. 😭👍
Lets just appreciate American muscle rather than try to pick it apart. I’ll never own one but damn it’s a thing of beauty hearing that thing rev. I’ll hold onto my WB scat until I die.
My mother had a 64 dart 170 with the 225 slant six. My father always got the big 6.
Not as powerful, but I always gravitate to the Max Wedge 413s/426s of yesteryear. True, original muscle.
American perfection right there. Such a beautiful car. Thanks Dodge :)
Perfection?? It's a FIAT product!!!😂
@Jeff Miller right...
@Jeff Miller Cry more 😢
@Kronk that’s literally all you can say? cry more? cope harder motard, nothing special about a dodge fundamentally.
It’s just not a dodge it really isn’t
I’m surprised that the trap speed isn’t higher, 151mph, I’d thought closer to 160 mph
Dodge didn't disappoint thats a hell of a monster
Kind of wished they would’ve changed the name to something different but car is crazy either way 🔥
Challenger Demon Hellraiser, maybe.
It's describing the car. When you have 1000hp under your foot and you pull up to a red light who's really in control?
@Hostile Aksthe tires lol
@net gnostic demon hellraiser would be perfect
These will be snapped by car collectors and I probably never see one on the streets. I do think it is a very cool way to end Era of Excess for Dodge.
I didn’t need a muscle car so I took advantage of buying a Jeep rubicon this year with the SRT392 with XR package before everything goes electric. It has plenty of power for what it is and I took advantage of getting something you won’t be able to get anymore. It’s my anti-electric purchase in honor of the old school cars I grew up with over the last 50 years
I’ll take one in each colour.
🤣
My favorite color is ham
900k
The wheel flairs on the back only is an old school look and man does it ever work here 👍
“It won’t be that quick on the street” hold my beer😂
Dodge knows what their customers want.
This is definitely going to be worth an insane amount of money in the future! It's sad that muscle cars are coming to an end.. Even tho electric cars are using gas, diesel, natural gas and coal to generate energy! Don't even get me started on the unethical ways they get the materials for batteries..
The fact I’m seeing $100k+ markup on these is insane….for a dodge
I'm a dodge fan of their diesel trucks but these are disappearing too. They are making it real hard to get parts for the old ones. They are pushing the electrification seriously now. I grew up with old machines now is sad to let them go.
Words cannot describe how goddamn crazy this thing is
I love the rear only wide body it makes it so unique
Will this make the original demon more affordable now lol.
I hope so 😂
The original Demon was produced in 1971 . These new ones are just tarted up Challengers .
Those 1/4 e.t times are like late 80s bob Glidden pro stock thunderbird territory. This is a street car right off the showroom floor and it really needs a chute!
The perfect send off for the great run Dodge had with the Challenger and Charger. I see projections that Dodge will sell over 80,000 Hellcats of all types before they are retired, which dwarfs not only sales of supercharged cars by Ford and GM over the same time period, but obliterated Dodge's modest initial sales projection. The Hellcats were winners whether driving comfortably on the street or competing at the strip. Mustang and Camaro got the nod from the reviews, but customers living in the real world preferred the Hellcats.
And to think people where saying no way they will build a more powerful car than the demon XD
Nobody said that. They said it was an e85 tune with higher boost. How high and how much hp were the only questions I’ve heard
@Rusty Shaklferd ive seen quite alot of people saying that there was no way they was gonna release a more powerful car than the demon but eh its what i seen
@Speed Hunter yeah that’s cause the collectors knew they were gonna lose money when they made a faster one
It’s basically a Demon on even more steroids.
@Rusty Shaklferd 900hp on 93
I love this, but I would roll in a new electric charger as well.
The last middle finger before EV's take over
This gets me hard.. I'm gonna miss the sounds of real engines. If Ev's ever really take hold 😢
"If EVs take hold?"? Mate, most major manufacturers have already given dates for their last ICE cars. We are at the pinnacle of gasoline performance. In the muscle car era it was unthinkable that one of the big 3 could release an 800-1000hp street car with a warranty (and emissions controls!). Enjoy it while it lasts. EVs are the way forward.
I've got a 6 speed, 5.7L 2013 Challenger RT with less than 25K miles on it & am in love with this car! At 63 years old, I plan to have it til I die & thankfully do not have to drive it in Ohio winters. One day I was at the store & a lady about my age was walking by as I started the car to leave. She flagged me to roll my window down & said "Now that is how a car should sound." Made my day
@Matt Agnew Not my way forward :-) I have the funds to purchase a new Challenger but i personally feel the 70 model is a better looking car. So, im going back. No electronics to interfere with my driver input and no one can remotely turn it off either.
And now the normal Demon just wen't down in price, never change dodge.
I would honestly like an aluminum block instead of an iron block for such a performance vehichle
That’s what I’m looking for,a 1000+ horse power car
Oh I assumed this was tuned at first, but Dodge actually made this? Awesome. Sadly I bet it’ll launch even worse than the first Demon. Again it’ll need a prepped drag strip.
Dodge shaved off plastic fender flares to save 16 lbs yet front cradle, reinforcement bar and control arms are made out of metal, also the front bumper weighs like 100 pounds.
You know the “market adjustment “ on those will be $75-$100k
Would rather have them devote their energy to making a final year affordable V8 Challenger for the working guy.
I like it but how do Demon owners feel about this new Demon 170. Maybe it will be mixed reviews. Look how upset some Durango owners got after finding out Dodge made another year Durango Hellcat. 😮
This looks cool also the torque man thats fast
being named a demon means this will break down more times than not
Does anyone doubt that if they opened up ordering right now for this car at $200k each that all 3000 cars would be spoken for within 5 to 10 mins, if not even less. What a freaking amazing machine!!! A rear-wheel drive pretty heavy coupe with a full interior that has 1000 HP at the crank which would be about 820 to 830 hp at the tires that will do 0 to 60 MPH in 1.66 seconds!!!!! Are you kidding me??? Here I have a heavily modified and E85 tuned Redeye Widebody Challenger Hellcat with just a tiny bit under 1000 HP at the tires and I am running mid 9's at 140 to 142 mph in the quarter mile and maybe doing 0 to 60 in 2.3 to 2.5 on the track and THIS FREAKING STOCK Hellcat with a 60k mile powertrain warranty is running in 8's an doing 0 to 60 in 1.66 seconds! That is just insane really.
Only 400k after dealership “market adjustment”!!
Unfortunately a lot of these are gonna just be collectors items with several hundred% markups in ten years, but at least that means that they'll be preserved
UPDATE: Dodge will also be making a special manual transmission Demon 170 Ronnie Sox version to commemorate the great Mopar drag racing legend. 100 will be produced in a Red, White and Blue color scheme, and it will feature an RTS G101A GFORCE 4 SPEED DOGBOX TRANSMISSION, to lay to rest the quickest manual transmission car ever produced....
A man can eat his cake too, right?? 😀
Over 1000 horsepower that a lot I don’t think I can handle it so I’m just gonna stick with my Z it only had 332 🐎 and what the wheels cost over 11K wow 👏✌🏽
This guy needs to get familiar with Dodge. Several times he refers to "The Original Demon". His HUGE error is that the "Original Demon" Is NOT even a Challenger! And the "Original Demon" was way back in the 70s.
He knows. Doesn’t take a genius to understand he’s merely referring to the Challenger Demon.
I guess the history is unimportant to them. The OG 1971 Demon will always be my favorite.
I call B-llSh-t because I have never seen a regular Demon go 9.60s like they claim always low 10s. This will run what the early Demon was supposed to run. I guarantee my plaid will smoke it. My plaid runs 9.10@151mph
Proud to have once owned a Scat Pack Shaker, now a HEMI Challenger.
So badass, best muscle car. No contest.
I remember growing up in the 70s driving my mopars. My friends who drove chevys and fords made fun of me and my Dodges. I ran both sb and bb mopars. Now look who I can see in my rearview mirror. No car but a Mopar.
Awesome...so now you can spin the wheels even faster!
It should also say Bought Not Built! I think I could take a first Gen Charger or Challenger and run 8's for half that price?😢
Why increase hp that much? Why not increase by 1hp every month, that way have people scrambling to upgrade all the time? That'll save Dodge so much in development costs, retooling, etc.
I mean how can they keep away from upgrading every year and letting their neighbour possibly have ~12hp more?
It doesn't matter if it's 12hp or 200hp more than the other guy: If you ain't first you're last!
The world of electronic vehicles is next chapter that’s here now. When we were kids we would always say, how high up with Hp & Tq can they go before there’s nowhere else to go? Sadly we are there now and next phase is electric.
If anyone de-tuned this, the power-train would basically be bulletproof
What's the likelihood anyone will be able to afford one after dealership mark-up?
Would love to see a 1000hp Charger with AWD as a send off too
0-60 mph in 1 second 😂
@AT someone is definitely gonna go to the hospital
Nice, but I'm waiting to see what's next with excitement!
So get a nice hellcat for around 60 & throw some slicks & a nitrous kit on it lol
I was hoping they would use the helephant engine but this is still cool
