Is the 2024 Corvette E-Ray quicker than the 2023 Corvette Z06? We explore that using numbers generated from our last episode, where the Z06 beat a Porsche 911 GT3 (992), an Audi R8 V10 Performance, and almost kept up with a Ducati Panigale V4 SP2.
Using his signature time-freeze technique, veteran automotive journalist Jason Cammisa shows us the outcome of the race and explains how it happened by walking back through slow-mo time at the finish line.
The Corvette E-Ray combines the Z06's wide body with the base Stingray's 6.2-liter LS2 V-8 and a front-mounted, 160-hp electric motor. Launches are now wheelspin-free and no-drama as the E-Ray rockets from 0-60 in just 2.4 seconds - making this the quickest Corvette in history.
And, at 3925 lb, the heaviest. But also the first AWD Corvette and the first-ever hybrid Corvette.
It's a very quick sign of things to come!

@dknight You're right, but I also forgot the Ford GT and probably a couple others. If hypercars count in this conversation, let's also consider the SCC Ultimate Aero and Tuatara and the Hennessey Venom (though the first Venom was also part English).

This is the single best, objectively filmed, and highly technical car review film ever. The concept, vehicle choreography, edit, B rolls, and sheer quality of production deserve an award.

800 HP twin turbo - RWD only in the ZR1. It will not have the electric front motors. The Zora will be even higher-end than the ZR1 and will have more HP from the V8 and also electric motors on the front, which may be more powerful than those of the E-ray. 1000 HP+ on the Zora. But the Zora will have an MSRP of like $250K.

@Wade Stipp zr1 is going to have AT LEAST 850hp. Probably start at $150k and Zora will probably start at $200k
I’m amazed at the launch the E Ray has! It just took off and sounded great doing it. I didn’t think I’d ever see a Corvette pull off something like that!
The engineers have been trying to do it since the '60s, the bean counters and board room wouldn't let them bring their midengine prototype cars to market though. Looks like Zora Duntov's spirit is getting the last laugh after all!
This is by far one of the best choreographed videos ever. It's short and sweet, Jason Cammisa gets straight to the point, but most of all, it's entertaining as hell!

Having met and chatted with Randy Pobst a few years back, I was duly impressed with what a great guy he is. Can't wait to see him wring out the GT3 RS.
Yeah it isn't just for the camera, he was in the middle of eating lunch and said he would drive me around in my Mazdaspeed 3 at VIR years ago at a track day. What a ride and he was chatting the entire time pushing it to its limit and beating his friend following us in an E46 M3. I sat passenger to few race drivers over the years but none as down to earth and talented as Mr. Pobst! I almost forgot he had his track prepped 911 Turbo there and he was just letting his friends take out for hot laps, he really is a genuine good guy.

I would be much more interested in a lap time comparison. You guys were at Willow Springs, apparently using the uphill main straight for acceleration but didn’t think to get lap times? That is the real comparison I want. Waiting for that next video!

Excellent comparison of vehicles, beautiful positioning of this new record breaking Corvette against these 2 Italian giants, superb lead up performance by yourself and your dynamic personality (I like Emelia Hartford's energy, but let's face it, I'm a guy, you're a guy, and these are cars built by men, your personality performance in this video came across, magically I would say! Great video, but I would have liked to see the prices 'as tested'. I know the base E-ray is supposed to start around $100k (good luck getting it at that price though). And I'm sure this one had options and packages added. But still... is it safe to say it would be around half the price of the Ferrari and Lambo?

I really like the e-rays front end. I love the body colored side too. That's one thing I really hate on the new corvetts... it looks like a bird/fish mouth on the side where you see the gas tank lid... The e-ray looks more polished exterior wise to me. z06 sounds nasty AF.

Both these videos are wonderful. Love the editing, top notch. I will say that Lamborghini is probably right that their customers don't care about speed...or at least it only needs to be 'fast'. They are status symbols. At least lambo is self aware enough to admit it...

When I read the details on the E Ray, I knew it was going to be one of the best cars America has ever made. Huge Ferrari fan here, as it’s my last name. But, the engineering on that Vette, is unreal. That launch is like a 23’ 911 Turbo S and Acura NSX S type

Love seeing these type of cars. I also love absolutely destroying them on my Superbikes on the mean streets in the real world. I enjoy turning off my anti-lift and giving them a bit of a jump and then blitzing by on 1 wheel at over 150mph while in 4th where I can finally use all the horses available with less risk of flipping the bike over backwards. I must admit that modern cars are getting much closer to the performance of bikes though.
Big congrats on giving an italian fist thrust to the italians by renting their cars independently! I've only heard how hard it is to wrangle cars for performance testing without manufacturer approval, and that was probably a massive headache! Awesome video as always!
And when they do, Ferrari has a crew of 10 techs that come with the car. Unlike the Z06 and GT3 RS where they have an intern drop of the car and a Coors or Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte is on the seat for the testers enjoyment.
@Thunder Chicken yeah Ferrari thinks being overprotective and vauge about their cars is maintaining their prestigious image but it's really not. I comes off as insecure and bitter. The other brands and their engineers are proud of the cars they design and build, and they're confident that their work will speak for itself.

Hoonigan needs to pickup a thing or two from these videos for their this vs that series. The camera angles are fantastic and those slow mo walk arounds are brilliant
All wheel drive and with electric motors having maximum torque at 1RPM and a tried and true 6.2 OHV V8 designed with max torque down low, helps launch the ERay quickly. Can’t wait to see what the upcoming Zora will do.
I was never a GM fan but the Corvette has been the only American car that I've really wanted to get. Looking forward to how well the hybrids are gonna be from the Corvette line moving forward tbh because that thing is crazy.
I almost bought a vintage corvette a few years ago. The I started finding out how expensive the maintenance and repairs are. It was a flat NO from me. I don’t regret leaving in the sellers driveway. I bought a Harley Davidson instead. It was also a big waste of money😂.
@Nickie McNichols .. There are companies that retrofit vintage Corvettes with Tesla a drive train. Zero maintenance needed. And they are faster than any Corvette ever produced. Sacrilegious science? Probably... I would buy one if I could afford one.
