Elizabeth II's cabinet was often paid with kind words, if ever paid at all. Will Durant notes in The Story of Civilization: The Age of Reform, Elizabeth handed the key positions to people who could simply not be bought. The simple idea of paying treasure = gains loyalty is reductive and absurdist- it makes me lament Italian history, where this exact same sort of thinking lead to perpetual backstabbing for 1200 years.

The best solution i see is the one most likely for the future.
    Artificial Intelligence.
It puts the question of loyalty in a meaningless position.
All that's needed then is a leader strong enough not to get mad with power.
    Maybe an AI as well?...

If that so what about crazy high tax in European nations ? They literely have higher tax compare to China

    • tom marchianti
      tom marchianti 2 ngày trước

And in the PRC, the governement spending is in pair with individual investissement, for exemple, many chinese spend some to a lot of monney in the infrastructure, to get less tax on the transport, and others advantages. So the state and the provinces have less to spend on it.

    • J gw
      J gw 2 ngày trước

The higher tax rate is used to give treasure to the people via free healthcare / public services / infrastructure. If European governments just spent all the extra taxes on themselves then they'd be overthrown.

    • tom marchianti
      tom marchianti 3 ngày trước

It's because they are social nation (not by the political point of view), but by the fact they give back those tax under the form of bigger services. (And also because they don't have any grows rate, so they make stock, or / and refund or / and keep the truth of their debt keepers and traders).

I think the consequences of Humans Need Not Apply could seriously mix up the balance of power in this key analogy. If democracies rely on a productive populace to incentivize them to take care of their citizens, I wonder what the consequences of wide spread automation might be? What might happen to the balance of power when the people no longer play a role in the treasury or the keys to power. For that matter, what if general intelligence allowed for perfectly loyal keys for dictators. You may be able to circumvent your keys entirely, which could allow for the benevolent dictator to remain in power indefinitely. Or you might just kill everyone to cement your rule I suppose.

    • michael ferris
      michael ferris 2 ngày trước

@J gw That really depends on how capable the AI is, the only real advantage humans have over machines is our brain, if AI becomes equivalent or smarter than us we might become economically obsolete. Past technologies didn't threaten to replace brainpower, so it's not a fair comparison.

    • J gw
      J gw 2 ngày trước

New jobs will be created to replace the old, just as they have done with every technological advance. The impact of automation is seriously overblown.

theres a missing key in all of this.. wich is .. technology .. technology change the way people see the world, interact with each other, and , democratised technology removes power from the few to the many.

Good summary of many basics and especially of how bad dictatorship work. Does not cover how idea's and beliefs modify this at times. Example modern Professional Army concept takes the Army as a part that has to be paid off with actual wealth out of the power fight while still keeping it to keep other powers in line. The Additional advantage is Professional Armies made up of Civil Servants win on the battle field vs in it for a profit mercenaries. Corruption with professional Armies it the buying off of contractors and voters in a Area and Weapon buying that corrupt on the edges. Still a Professional Army can work for Dictatorships that is smart enough to keep it Professional.
Old concept of Devine Right of Kings and importance of blood lines actually did work with few exceptions to limit possible chalangers but still Kings way more likely to be killed than democracy leaders.

There are so many historical actions that can counter this video only a small amount of civil wars or coups have happened like this but any major ones like the Russian revolution Chinese revolution or the us civil war were made of the common people they did seize arm stashes but they controlled few generals but more people and after the war Stalin purged any Tsarit officers and Stalin purged them too and in America many of those politicians who rebelled just had their reputation destroyed like maybe this is kinda coherent with somewhere like Thailand? Bolivia or Lybia but this is really inconsistent
